EXTREME INSTABILITY

Bangladesh Meteorology

Eastern India and Bangladesh is quite unlike anywhereyou are likely to find on the earth. The combination of sufficient shear, backed winds and extremely high moisture make for a volatile situation. In the plains, CAPE (Convective Available Potential Energy) over 4,000 J/KG is considered extremely unstable. In Bangladesh, CAPE in extreme cases can reach towards 9000 J/KG. The storms are also show it in their maximum height – shown here is the famous Aurora Nebraska supercell that put down record hail on June 22, 2003 with stones 18.6″ inches in circumference.
